Pretty much a day in the life of @Regina_Kara and I. She makes me laugh, I make her laugh. Don’t really know what I did to deserve this one… But I can’t ask for more =).

(By the by, this may be outtake footage for an upcoming music video :O!)

When an Elbow Isn’t Just an Elbow
It was supposed to be just another Sunday match-up between the NBA’s two leading scorers. Instead, Metta World Peace knocked James Harden out of the game with an errant/wild/Satanic elbow and the entire basketball news cycle tipped on its axis.

Alright, there are so many things wrong with this article. Don’t get me wrong, Artest’s elbow was definitely flagrant and should be met with consequences—But “Satanic elbow”, “Witch Hunt”, “inner darkness”? C’mon, GQ staffers… Save the intense adjectives for the clothing. What really irks me about this writer’s take on the entire thing is that it’s laden with hypocrisy and overblown accusation. Yes, it’s unfortunate that Harden has sustained a concussion; yes, it is unacceptable that Artest has again, physically injured another player. But to say that “This is why basketball has to be saved from him [Artest]” is a really tacky (and overdramatic) stab at starting professional sport drama that just screams “bias”.
This writer’s stance is unprofessional for a multitude of reasons.
1) The NBA is, as the article states, a physical sport. There are intimidating players, and a very high percentage of basketball players have dealt with physical injury from another player. Just as many have dished it out too, whether on accident or out of temperament. It happens, officials will deal with it. Write about the outcome, not your personal take on a player’s intent.
2) Criminalizing a player for acting on adrenaline hardly seems fair, and insinuating that the act was made due to questionable mental integrity isn’t a very neutral or informative stance. What happened to being explanatory rather than judgmental? Insinuating that Artest’s intent is “something deeper, more pervasive, than a single ill-advised elbow” is something better left for a professional psychiatrist to decide.
3) I can go on, but upon some further research it’s no wonder that this writer’s articles on GQ have little to no attention other than that of the easily influenced and ready-to-namecall kind of crowd.
As a journalism graduate, it really does sadden me how “professional” writers have such high-level positions for publications that meet the public eye on a daily basis, yet they fail to remember that in good writing, facts > opinions.
